Fresh oil spill kills 3 in Ogoniland

Fresh oil spill at a facility owned by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, has killed at least three persons.

The incident which occured at Kpor, Gokana Local Government Area, a week ago, also affected farmlands in the area.

It was gathered by locals that three suspected oil thieves set the area on fire in a bid to cook illegal fuel. However, they were burnt to death by the kpo-fire.

According to the chairman of Kegbara-Dere Town Council, oil thieves had set the spill at Kpor trunkline ablaze, adding that three of the thieves died at the spot.

“On the 18th of April, around 10 pm, we heard a loud sound and but we later found out that the oil spill at Kpor area was on fire.

“Our boys did not do it. We only heard that some oil bunkerers that were cooking products around that area caused it.” he said.
