Fuel Scarcity Hits Port Harcourt

There seems to be a scarcity of petroleum products in the oil capital of Nigeria.

Theportcitynews gathered that most filling stations were shut on Monday due to non-availability of petroleum products.

The situation left vehicle users especially commercial drivers alarmed.

Some of the shut filling stations visited by our correspondent confirmed that they shut operations due non-availability of products.

But the Corporate Communications Director of the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu, said in a statement on Thursday that the country will not experience fuel scarcity as 55 depots, including 7 in Port Harcourt have been stocked with products.

However, Some of the managers at the stations said that since last week, they have not been able to lift products from NNPC approved depots in Port Harcourt, necessitating their decision to shut down sales.

They said that the glut might last for a week or two, adding that they are optimistic that something will be done about it.

Some industry stakeholders who spoke to theportcitynews correspondent said that full scarcity will lead to an increase in bunkering activities.

They also urged the government to nip the problem in the bud as soon as possible.
