Port Harcourt Literary Society (PHLS) To Host Professor Chigozie Obioma

Art lovers in the city of Port Harcourt and its environs, gather around. There is good news for you!

The Port Harcourt Literary Society is pleased to announce Professor Chigozie Obioma as the guest author for the March edition of its monthly Open Mic event which holds on the last Friday of every month.

Professor Chigozie Obioma is the professor of creative writing and literature at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. His debut book, ‘The Fishermen’ won inaugural FT/Oppenheiner Award for fiction, the NAACP image awards for Debut Literary Work, the LA Times Art Seidenbaum Award, A Nebraska Book Award. ‘The Fishermen’ was a finalist for the Man Booker Prize 2015, the Guardian First Book Award. His second novel, An Orchestra Of Minorities was published in January 2019.

The Port Harcourt Literary Society, in line with its vision to infuse creativity in the arts, is set to accept submissions of Reviews from individuals on Chigozie Obioma’s first book, ‘The Fishermen’.

How To Send Your Review

· Ensure your review is written in simple and correct English. Reviews in pidgin or Vernacular will not be accepted.

· Your review must not exceed 600 words and must be sent as a single word document to the emailliteraryevening1@gmail.com .

· The subject of the mail should be “The Fishermen(2015) Review Entry”.

· Ensure to add a brief bio of yourself in not more than 50 words, in the body of the mail.

The best entry shall win a free autographed copy of Prof. Chigozie Obioma’s latest work, An Orchestra of Minorities, and shall have his review read out during the Open Mic event.
The author of the winning entry as well as the first and second runners up will also get to share a private lunch date with Prof. Chigozie Obioma afterwards.

Also, the winning entry shall be published on the foremost African Literary Magazine, Brittle Paper.

The deadline for the submission is the 25th of March, 2019 at exactly 23:59.
