War imminent in Rumuekini over land acquisition for UNIPORT staff quarters

There is a threat of war drums in Rumuekini community of Obio/Apkor Local Government Area over a potential land purchase by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Port Harcourt chapter, are trying to procure for staff quarters.

Theportcitynews learnt that the disputed land which is over 1000 plots belongs to members of the Rumuawoncho clan.

The community, especially the clan which claimed ownership of the land is livid over the plots by ASUU to illegally take their land.

Comrade Emeka Samuel, the community’s chief security officer told our correspondent that they are sending out a strong warning on behalf of the chiefs, elders and youths of the community to the UNIPORT chapter of ASUU to desist from the “unlawful purchase of the land to prevent crisis since they are passing through the wrong channel to carry out the purchase.”

He also called on UNIPORT ASUU to follow the right channel by going through the genuine source to effect the purchase.

Accordingly, some elders warned the intended buyers to be careful adding that the issue has been reported to the Rivers State Government, security agencies and the general public.

The said: “We are law-abiding and peace-loving people in Rumuekini and would, therefore, advise anyone trying to engage in purchasing the land through the backdoor to desist instantly to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the community. The Rivers State Government and security agencies should take note,” they concluded.
