Attempted Murder Charge: Judge orders Rivers CP to produce Chidi Lloyd in court

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned till 4th of February, the case of murder charges brought against the former leader of House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd, by the Rivers State Government.

Chidi Lloyd is facing a three-count charge bothering on attempted murder, damage of public property and an assault with an intent to wound.

However, the former leader of Rivers State House of Assembly and the Director-General of Tonye Cole campaign organization Chidi Lloyd was again absent in court when the case was called up.

Prince Azunda, lawyer to Chidi Lloyd during his argument asked the court to adjourn the case sine die because they have filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal.

He argued that the State Government has the responsibility of bringing Chidi Lloyd to court since he is in their custody after the court placed a bench warrant on him.

The lawyer to Rivers State Government, GODWIN OBLAR, SAN, said filing an appeal does not warrant a stay of prosecution.

He insisted that Chidi Lloyd’s absence from court is a contempt of court.

Godwin Oblar stated that Chidi Lloyd must be produced by the Commissioner of Police so he can take his plea in court.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Chinwedu Wogu after entertaining the arguments of the two lawyers ruled that the Commissioner of Police must be served a hearing notice to produce Chidi Lloyd in court to take his plea on the next adjourned date of 4th February 2018.
