Fyneface Dumnamene, a human rights activist, research and project officer of Social Action, a Port Harcourt-based civil society organization, has cried out over attempts to assassinate him.

Dumnamene who hails from Khana local government area of Rivers State said he escaped direct bullet shot by unknown gunmen which was shot directly on his bed at about 9:54 pm on the 16th of November 2018 at his residence in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.

He said that unfortunately for the gunmen, he was at that very moment having his bath in the bathroom. Fyneface said, his wife sustained bruises from effects of the bullet.

Mr Dumnamene said he does not know for sure who wants him dead, “But I know quite well that some people are not happy about my strong advocacy”.

Mr Dumnamene for over seven years has been involved in environmental advocacy and was among those who spearheaded the campaign for the Ogoni clean up as well as Niger Delta environmental cleanup.

“Because I have been a very strong voice, in advocating for the Ogoni/ Niger Delta environmental cleanup, I suspect those that are opposing the clean up are attempting to take me out of their way”.

” I am using this medium to call on Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project and the Federal Ministry of Environment to account for their environmental roles in the Ogoni land, so I don’t know where the bullet came from”.

“My life is under threat. These people will not stop until they silence my voice from advocating for a clean and safe environment for my people. But I believe that for the fact that I stand for the community, my people, my role will continue to be relevant.

“The fact that I was not killed is because of the prayers of my people.

“I am using this medium to call on the international communities, the Nigeria federal government and good citizens to come to my aid as my life is no longer safe”.
