Former first lady of Rivers State, Judith Amaechi has called on Rivers State women to seek the face God in a bid to redeem the State from the killings which have suddenly become the order of the day.
Mrs Amaechi decried the spate of wanton killings which she said “have reached an alarming propotions in parts of the State few years that her husband, Chibuike Amaechi left office as the Governor of the state”
Mrs Amaechi spoke during a reception organised in her honour to mark her 48th birthday celebration in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
She noted that ” I did not come to only celebrate my birthday with you, but I have come to speak to your minds.
” You will agree with me that this is not the Rivers State that I used to know. In 2007 before my husband became Governor , it got to a point where men would raise their hands to walk the streets of Port Harcourt”.
“It also got to a point when businessmen and women had to close their shops at 11am because of the level of insecurity in the State.
” At very uncountable times, I had to close my shop at Aggrey road before 10am . Then, some unscrupulous fellows will come to your shop to demand from you all kinds of frivolous levies and taxes ranging from ten to twenty thousand naira even when you have not made up to two thousand naira a day and that was the order of the day”.
“It even got to an unbearable stage in this State when men and women had to pray to God to send someone who would deliver and liberate the State from the claws of these evil merchants. And without being bias, when my husband assumed office, he was able to bring sanity to the land”.
“Today, few years after my husband left office, people are been killed, heads are been cut off and kidnapping has assumed an unbearable dimensions.
” Are we back to the old days century? Is it when they enter your house that you would rise up?
“Please speak to God to redeem this State and I urge you all to go back to prayers because Rivers State belongs to all of us and I know that no matter the conspiracy God will surely prevail”, she added.
