House passes vote of confidence on Accountant General

Gladys Nweke

To ensure accountability in government’s expenditure, the Rivers state house of Assembly, on Thursday, met with the Accountant General of the State Mr Dagogo Abere, commissioner for finance and auditor general.

The meeting is in continuation of its audit of Ministries, Department and Agencies of Government.

The exercise is Co-handled by the house committee on Finance chaired by Hon Ehie Edison and that of Public Accounts chaired by Hon Major Jack.

Briefing journalists at the end of the exercise, Hon Ehie Edison described the exercise as fruitful noting that it has shown to a large extent that the resources of the state are being prudently managed.

“we saw details of the prudent management of scarce resources where every item was given very clear evidence of constitutional expenditure and at the end of the exercise we are sure Rivers people will be happy and will see that there is value for money as we have been elected to so do,” he said.

Other agencies that appeared include the State and Local Government Auditors General and a delegation from the Ministry of Finance.
