NAWOJ flares FG over birth control policy

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has frowned at the planned birth control policy of the Federal Government.

Rivers State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs Lilian Okonkwo, who spoke to journalists on Wednesday, said the policy was targeted at women in the country because the issue of family planning does not only apply to women but their male counterparts as well.

“When we talk of family planning, all we hear of is the women, does it take only the woman to produce children, and does it take only the woman to make a family?

“Of course not, we should also make the men part of family planning, because they are family control measures for the men”, Okonkwo said.

Recall that the Federal Government considered a birth control policy during the National Economic Summit in Abuja that allows women to have only two children, because the available resources may not meet the needs of the population if the birth rate is not controlled.
