A Pan Kalabari group, the Renaissance of Kalabari has organized a one-day mentorship class and award of scholarship for students from over ten secondary schools in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State.

The one-day programme with the theme ”rejuvenating academic excellence in Kalabari” took place at the Nyemoni Anglican Grammar School, Abonnema.

The Premier of Renaissance of Kalabari, Iseleye Amachree said the aim of the one-day mentorship class and award of scholarship was to revive the passion for academic pursuit among students in the area.

Iseleye Amachree said that Kalabari land has witnessed a decline in educational pursuit among youths in the area, adding that the students are more interested in doing illegal bunkering and other social vices.

He said the mentorship class and award of scholarships to best students in secondary schools in Kalabari land will guide the students to make the right choices in choosing their profession.

He stated that the group wants to motivate the youths so as to channel their attention back to education once again.

The Premier of Renaissance of Kalabari noted that young ones in the area have been influenced by people of questionable character who believe that education is not important in life.

In his comment, the Principal of the Nyemoni Anglican Grammar School, Abonnema, Rev.Canon. Isoboye Amabibi while commending the Renaissance of Kalabari said the programme will re-shape the minds of the youths in Kalabari land.

Isoboye Amabibi stated that the youths needed a mentor and said the efforts of the group will bring succour to many students in the area.

He, however, appealed to other groups, individuals and corporate organizations in the area to emulate the gesture of Renaissance of Kalabari by organizing educational programmes that will have positive impacts on the lives of the young leaders.

Some of the award recipients at the event commended the group for the gesture and appealed to them to make it an annual event.

They said that the one-day mentorship class will inspire them to take their academics seriously.
