PDP Presidential Primary: Why Bayelsa, Other Oil Rich State Voted Atiku – Agbedi

Mr Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, has expressed delight over the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections.

When asked if Bayelsa delegates voted for Atiku because of his pro-restructuring stance, the federal lawmaker said that besides his state, all other states, including the Niger Delta States, voted for the former Vice President, describing him as “restructuring personified.”

He said that with Atiku as the presidential candidate of the PDP, the days of President Muhammadu Buhari in office were numbered.

He stated that by implication, the reign of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had also come to an abrupt end.

Agbedi, chairman of the House Committee on Gas Resources, stated this on Sunday in a chat with our correspondent while reacting to the weekend’s outcome of the PDP Special National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Agbedi, a former state chairman of the PDP, said that his personal analysis had convinced him that Atiku, from the day he returned to the party and signalled his intent to vie for the presidency, would be the next president of the country.

“So, I’m not surprised. I was confident he (Atiku) was going to emerge the presidential flag bearer of the PDP, and in one of my interviews at the convention (venue), I said he was going to emerge the next president of Nigeria come 2019,” he said.
