Rivers APC crisis: Group blames INEC, NWC

Some political observers in Rivers State have attributed the nonchalant attitude of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress in addressing the issue of parallel candidates in the Rivers APC as an attempt to cause crisis in the state.

The Chancellor of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights, Omenazu Jackson told our correspondent that the national working committee of the APC should stop sitting on the fence, urging it to come out and declare the authentic faction between Ojukaye Flag Amachree and Peter Odike led state APC.

Dr. Jackson also lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission for failing to be proactive in the state’s APC parallel crisis, adding that INEC ought to have known the faction to work with.

“It is unfortunate to see Senator Magnus Abe and Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi fighting each other over political ambition now that the APC needed them most to work together.

“We expect INEC to meet with the national leadership of APC to know the authentic faction and take a stand not to deal with the faction not recognized by the national body of the party” the Chancellor said.

The division within the party in the state according to senator Abe was as a result of his ambition to contest the state governorship election in 2019.

But the transport minister in disagreement with Abe’s assertion said the Senator is colluding with the state incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike, to frustrate the APC.

This division on Sunday, September 30, 2018 gave birth to parallel guber primaries in which Abe and Tonye Cole both emerged as the party governorship candidates through direct and indirect primaries from separate venues.
