GLADYS NWEKE
Two factions of the youths of Rumuodomaya community, the headquarter of Obio/Akpor local government area, are having a clash over the mode to be used in conducting the youth election in that area.
A youth leader who wish to remain anonymous revealed to our correspondent that the chiefs and elders of the community dissolved the electoral committee formally appointed by the outgoing youth president of Rumuodomaya Community, Theophilus Ndamati and re-appointed the Rumuodomaya community development council (RCDC) as electoral committee to conduct the youth election so as to minimise the crisis ongoing in that area.
The RCDC summoned all the youth organizations and made it known to them that they are willing to conduct the youth election but are bent on doing it by following their leadership path as was enshrined in the youth constitution.
This decision by the RCDC did not go well with a faction of the youth led by one of the presidential aspirant Mr. Joseph Ichegbo, who wanted the secret ballot system and stressed that the constitution should be kept aside until after the election.
On his part, the other faction of the youth led by one of the presidential aspirant Mr. Kingsley Ogbonda lauded the RCDC for having so much respect for the youth Constitution. He said the community has always enjoyed related peace thereby urging the RCDC not to allow themselves to be used or distracted.
The residents of the community also appealed to the Obio/Akpor local government chairman to intervene on the matter in order to avoid the breaking of law and order.
