The popularly known Rumuokoro roundabout in Obio/Akpor Local government axis of Port Harcourt has been described as a place where criminals now gather day and night to carry out their ugly acts.

Residents of the area now live in fear of being lynched, stabbed or robbed by these criminals who operates around this area with jack knives and fire arms.

Just yesterday, a reliable source that resides around the area narrated what he described as “broad day-light robbery and intimidation” on a woman at the roundabout.

Narrating the ordeal, he told our correspondent Gladys Nweke that he was at the roundabout at about 4pm that very day to buy a charger for his phone when he saw a boy of average height drag a hand bag from a woman and immediately pulled out a jack knife and dared the woman to come close to him, the woman could not for fear of being stabbed even passersby who could not do anything to help her, until the boy disappeared into the air.

The source further said that he later came closer and over heard the woman saying she has about ₦50,000 and other valuables including her phone in the bag.

Another eyewitness said the reason why nobody would want to intervene apart from the police is because they know too well that the boy was not alone, that definitely his gangs must be around watching unidentified.

The question is, are the police not aware of all these happenings even when they have their station close to this roundabout and some of their men and women at the same roundabout controlling traffic?

The public and residents at the Rumuokoro roundabout are calling on the Local Government Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Hon. Solomon Abel Eke and the D.P.O Special Area Division to come to their aid and act very fast to eradicate these ugly acts.
