Task-force demolishes gadget repair centre at Garrison

Gadget repairers at the Garrison round-about were sent running helter-skelter today when Rivers state task force came and demolished their properties.

This came after the Rivers state government informed street traders to leave the road and move to the permanent place allocated for their buying and selling.

In an interview with some of the victims, they lamented that they were not informed about the plans to demolish the place.

“They just came this morning without any form of notice and started destroying the place, if they had informed us, some of us would have packed our properties and moved out.

“They destroyed so many things including our showcase glasses, they spoilt phones and laptops. This is very unfair and unfortunate. We don’t have anywhere to go to.

“This was our means of livelihood. We spent a lot of money here and we pay our taxes, even before we put up the structure where we were doing our businesses, we informed the state government in charge of urban and regional planning and they allowed us to stay.

“Most of us here are graduates who could not find jobs and we had to look for ways to make a living instead of putting our hands in immorality. It is so painful because they never informed us, they just came and started destroying everywhere.

“They always tell us to pay money, which we have been doing. What do they want us to do now? They are already complaining that a lot of criminal activities have been taking place in this Garrison round-about but now things are going to worsen because we have to look for ways to survive” they said.
