Do you have better sex as you grow older?

Contrary to the general belief that our sex life turns less exciting with time, we have several studies that claim just the opposite—just like wine, sex life too gets better with time. For instance, a study done by an online platform Happify says, people have the best sex of their life in their 40s, precisely when they are 46 years old. Another research done at the University of Pittsburgh concluded that women have a more satisfying sex life as they turn older. Curious why is it so? Here are a few reasons to help you understand why sex gets better with age…

The emotional connect

With time, you realise sex is more than just a physical need. You develop an emotional bond with your partner and there is a sense of security and stability in the relationship, which is an outcome of years of togetherness. This phase begins once you overcome the stage where your heart is ruled by your hormones and as months turns into years and years into decades, you actually learn make love as opposed to just having sex.

You know what you want

Your twenties and early thirties are all about experimentation. What all you like in foreplay, the best sex positions, what makes you climax etc. and you figure out your likes and dislikes. Your youthful years are an investment to figure out what works best for you. As you grow older, you are quite clear about your sexual needs and there is a high probability that you have the best sex of your life in those years.

Your body confidence

As you age, you get more comfortable with your body. Whether it is stretchmarks or a bulging tummy, ideal body type or a thigh ‘gap’, you are not worried about what your partner is going to think about your not-so-perfect body nor are you conscious about it. You have learnt embrace yourself the way you are and do not want to fit yourself in any category of a ‘perfect’ body.

The pressure of sexual performance

Did my partner enjoy having sex with me? Maybe, he or she didn’t like the position we tried last and I need to improve? For beginners, performance anxiety is a big issue that prevents them from having a satisfying sex life. As you grow older, the thoughts of your sexual performance do not give you jitters. You know how to make your partner happy and have reached that stage of mutual understanding (when it comes to sexual need) where your partner’s physical needs need not be communicated through words.

Say bye to stress

Your 20s, 30s and even 40s could be stressful if you are trying to conceive or are trying to avoid pregnancy. You are under constant stress of ‘what if’ anything goes haywire, and this might fade off the charm from your sex life. But you bid farewell to all such concerns once you have crossed the age of being biologically fertile and all you are left is with stress-free sexual life.

Quality over quantity

It’s no secret that the frequency of sex reduces with age, and your stamina and energy might not be the same. However, this has nothing to do with your sexual satisfaction. You might feel sexier than ever and something as simple as a mere kiss or hug might make you feel excited because you are not worried about the number of times you had sex in a week, rather you concentrate on making every experience a memorable one
