Several parts of Port-Harcourt city have been left in total darkness and properties worth millions destroyed after a heavy downpour on Monday, knocked down hundreds of electrical poles and disrupted distribution lines.
The rain which began a little after 2: Pm, also destroyed roofing sheets of several buildings including that of Emerald hotel at Rumuola.
At Rumuola junction, an advertorial signage fell on top of a two-storey building, thereby disfiguring the building. TPCN was not able to ascertain if there was any form of casualties.
Some of the the areas visited by TPCN, with significant levels of damage include GRA, Rumuola, Rumuokwuta, Agip, and Choba.
There was significant level of flooding at Rumuigbo area of the town, down to Rumuaholu axis.
Some residents who spoke to TPCN, expressed shock at the level of damage caused by the heavy downpour.
A trader at Rumuola simply identified as Victor, told TPCN that the rain had started with threatening wind and they watched helplessly as the roofs of their shops flew off.
A resident of Rumuigbo told TPCN that the heavy downpour has brought about flooding in the area and called on government to help checkmate the flood.
