Time is a bonafide period of rebirth—which means it’s time for your solemn, moody shades to go into storage to make way for brighter, cheerier ones. Because even if you’re not a warm weather person (ahem, guilty), one thing the season’s good for is embracing florals and floral-inspired manicure hues.
This season, it’s all about pops of pink, rich golds, and millennial lavender—among others—which all sound like they’ll go swimmingly with your wispy spring dresses. After all, nothing says: “Another kombrewcha, please!” like a flashy manicure to clutch it with.
Keep reading for the top 5 (5-or-more-free) nail shades that’ll be hot this season, according to manicurist and JinSoon nail spa and lacquer founder Jin Soon Choi.
Opaque neutrals
Time for a refreshing take on a classic neutral. “There’s a growing popularity of neutral shades with opaque finishes such as off-white creams, which make for a clean, restrained, classy spring look,” says Choi.
Spring floral
Spring floralTime calls for pairing your nails to the flowers blossoming around you (cue heart-eyes). “We’ve seen a lot of interest in quintessential floral spring shades, such as a romantic, feminine, and elegant lavender, which was one of the colors of the year from the Pantone spring color forecast,” says Choi. “Every fashion house used this color [Birdie] in their 2018 Collection.”
Playful pinks
Don’t be shy with your ballet slipper hues—it’s time to get more vibrant with pink (like, channel Barbie). “Bright, playful pinks were a big part of the runway scene for Spring 2018,” says Choi. “They’re ideal for street style fashion, so we’ll be seeing a lot of these types of flashy colors this season.”
Metallic gold
Metallics are a royal classic for the bold-hearted. “Metallic gold is huge this spring because the Met Gala theme was centered around Catholicism,” notes Choi. “It’s not only trendy for fashion items like nail polish, but for beauty items like face masks and face creams.”
Seasonal touches
You don’t have to leave your mani at the top coat—Choi says that fun effects are becoming a thing. This includes glitter and sparkles, which look irresistible in the sunlight. “Nail polish effects that are emblematic of spring but in a less predictable matte finish are going to be prominent this season because they offer a new look and are highly versatile,” she says. “They can be used alone or on top of a wide range of colors.”
