Abara Community issues quit notice to herdsmen.

There was heightened tension on Monday, the 19th of February in Abara in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State as farmers clashed with herdsmen grazing their cattle in the area.

It would have been a blood bath between the people of Abara and the Fulani herdsmen as the herdsmen engaged in destruction of the farmland which led to the killing of 3 cattle by the locals.

However, the herdsmen threatened to retaliate.

This angered the people of Abara, but for the timely intervention of the Chiefs and one Hon. Emma Nwaobilor, who worked to save the situation by calling in the security agents.

But the locals have said that the only way for peace to reign is for the herdsmen to leave the the community and issued an ultimatum to the herdsmen.

Leaders in the community have been working round the clock to ease tension in the area.

According to an indigene of Abara who spoke to TPCN, the people have been placed on high alert with the community ready to defend itself.

He said: “Farming is our only means of survival and we will not allow anybody to tamper with that”
