Diobu youths warn politicians against electoral violence

Youths in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt have warned politicians to desist from using thugs to cause discontents during any election in their domain as such leads to a spike in crime and other vices.

The youths also frowned at the involvement of security agents in aiding and abetting electoral violence in Rivers State.

The youths under the aegis of concerned Diobu youths who gave the warning in a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday insisted that they will no longer fold their hands and watch political thugs loyal to politicians foment trouble in their area during election.

The youths made the statement following the wide-spread violence that disrupted last Saturday’s Port Harcourt city Constituency 3 bye-election in the state.

“We will no longer tolerate this type of electoral violence masterminded by politicians in the state. We call on security agencies to stop aiding thugs to cause electoral violence in our area,” one of the youth leaders, Igonikon Dagogo said.

The group, therefore, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for suspending the bye-election, adding that the decision was appropriate.
