Population Control: Gynaecologist drums support for women

Do you know that Nigeria is two per cent of the world population?

Do you also know that Nigeria contributes over ten per cent of maternal mortality in the World?

Maternal death is the death of a woman while pregnant or within forty-two days of termination of pregnancy.

According to the World Health Organization, WHO, complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death and disability among women of reproductive age in developing countries. The maternal mortality ratio represents the risk associated with each pregnancy.

As a way to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist have called on Men and Nigerians to explore in family planning with their spouse.

The consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr ELI SUKARIME in an interview with our correspondent said over the years, the call on women to use contraceptives and other methods of child spacing are turning to be a burden.

The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist said by 2050 Nigeria will be two-thirds in the world and measures need to be taken to mitigate the alarming rate of the nation’s population.

“A drastic step needs to be taken to curb the population explosion in Nigeria”…

He said parts of ways to curb the population explosion is for men to venture into family planning or vasectomy etc.

Despite the future side effects if there may be in the in-plant of drugs that prevent the male folk from impregnating the female folk, WHO should review and work towards making the drug approved and in circulation.

But until then he said Men should encourage their spouse in family planning and in that way, Nigeria’s population will be reduced.

A writer once wrote “Almost half of the population of the world lives in rural regions and mostly in a state of poverty. Such inequalities in human development have been one of the primary reasons for unrest and in some parts of the world.

…so join the fight today.
